LPRC and LACE Sign US$165,000 Landmark Agreement to Construct Modern Student Center at Grand Gedeh University

Monrovia, Liberia – July 1, 2026 – The Liberia Petroleum Refining Company (LPRC) and the Liberia Agency for Community Empowerment (LACE) have signed a landmark agreement valued at US$165,000 for the construction of a modern Student Center at Grand Gedeh University in Zwedru City, Grand Gedeh County.
The Student Center, which forms part of LPRC’s 2026 Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Program, is designed to provide students with a modern facility for academic activities, leadership engagements, meetings, research, and other educational programs. The center will also be accessible to other stakeholders for approved academic and community-related activities.
Speaking during the signing ceremony, the Executive Director of the Liberia Agency for Community Empowerment (LACE), Hon. Julius K. Selle, expressed profound appreciation to the Managing Director of LPRC, Hon. Amos Tweh, the Board of Directors, and the entire management of LPRC for entrusting LACE with the implementation of such a significant national development project.
The LACE Executive Director described the agreement as a milestone in the agency’s efforts to broaden its development partnerships beyond traditional donor institutions and legislatively funded projects. While acknowledging the valuable support LACE has received from existing partners, he noted that many of those partnerships are often limited by predefined project scopes and geographical coverage.
He emphasized that collaborating with State-Owned Enterprises such as LPRC presents a unique opportunity for LACE to expand its operations and deliver greater impact to communities throughout Liberia.
The Executive Director further disclosed that the Government of Liberia, under the leadership of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, is advancing amendments to the Act establishing LACE to enable the agency to mobilize and utilize local resources in addition to donor funding. According to him, the amendment has already passed the House of Representatives and is currently before the Liberian Senate for concurrence.
He stressed that strengthening LACE’s legal framework will significantly improve community development initiatives while creating greater public awareness of the Corporate Social Responsibility obligations of government institutions and State-Owned Enterprises.
Commending LPRC’s leadership, the Executive Director stated that the company has “set the bar high” for Corporate Social Responsibility and encouraged other State-Owned Enterprises to emulate LPRC’s example by investing in impactful community development initiatives across Liberia.
Delivering remarks on behalf of the Liberia Petroleum Refining Company, Managing Director Hon. Amos Tweh described patience as one of life’s greatest virtues, noting that the Student Center project is the culmination of sustained engagement, consultations, and advocacy by student leaders and other stakeholders.
According to Hon. Tweh, following extensive internal reviews and in accordance with the company’s CSR policy, the LPRC Board of Directors approved the construction of the Student Center to address an important need at Grand Gedeh University.
He expressed appreciation to LACE for agreeing to serve as the implementing partner, emphasizing the agency’s strong record of successfully delivering development projects throughout Liberia.
Hon. Tweh reaffirmed LPRC’s commitment to supporting national development through strategic Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives that complement the Government of Liberia’s efforts to provide essential social services.
He highlighted several recent interventions undertaken by the company, including the donation of modern medical equipment and delivery beds to strengthen healthcare services, as well as the ongoing renovation of a public school in Nimba County. These initiatives, he noted, reflect LPRC’s unwavering commitment to improving the lives of Liberians through responsible corporate citizenship.
The Managing Director described the agreement as an important test of the partnership between LPRC and LACE. He expressed confidence that the agency would execute the project professionally and efficiently, assuring those in attendance that successful implementation would pave the way for future collaborations aimed at addressing critical development needs across Liberia.
While acknowledging that LPRC continues to receive numerous requests for assistance from communities nationwide, Hon. Tweh emphasized that although the company remains committed to making meaningful interventions, available resources require that projects be prioritized based on impact, available funding, and alignment with the company’s CSR policy.
He assured the people of Grand Gedeh County that the approval of the Student Center demonstrates LPRC’s commitment to responding to genuine community needs and reaffirmed the company’s determination to continue supporting impactful initiatives that contribute to national development.
The construction of the modern Student Center is expected to significantly enhance the learning environment at Grand Gedeh University while providing students with a conducive space for academic excellence, innovation, leadership development, and community engagement.
