LPRC MD EXHORTS PRESIDENT BARRACK OBAMA YOUNG AFRICAN LEADERSHIP FELLOWS
The Managing Director
of the Liberia Petroleum Refining Company, T. Nelson Williams, II has
challenged young people in leadership to be visionary, exemplary and performance
driven, if they are to be the future leaders of Liberia.
Mr. Williams made the remarks at a farewell pep
talk on June 4, 2014 in the LPRC Training Hall when 8 of 15 dynamic young
Liberian leaders recruited as part of the Washington Fellows for Young African
Leaders paid him a courtesy call.
He reminded the
Liberian team of Washington Fellows to serve as a source of inspiration and
motivation for others in their respective communities by demonstrating virtues
that would influence people in their team, school and work place. “To achieve
this, you must, as a leader provide direction and create the atmosphere for a
performance driven environment” the LPRC boss emphasized.
Mr. Williams urged the youth leaders to take
seriously their studies in the United States and be good ambassadors of their
country, “Avoid bad peers and be focused on your short and long term goals”. He told them to be their best and look their
best at all times.
Speaking earlier, the
Liberian Team Leader of the Washington Fellows, Mr. J. Alben Greaves thanked
Mr. Williams for accepting the group’s request to meet with him. In an overview
of the program, Mr. Greaves said the Washington Fellowship was launched In June
2013 and is the US President Barrack Obama Young African Leadership Initiative
(YALI) that provides unique opportunities for participants to use their new
skills to propel economic growth and prosperity, and strengthen democratic
institutions.
Mr. Greaves said the
candidates for the program are drawn from across Liberia and were vetted by IREX
through a rigorous and competitive process and will be assigned to various
Universities in the United States and Oversea Private Investment Corporations.
In separate statements,
the Liberian Team of Washington Fellows lauded the American People for the
initiative and promised to impact their community, civil society organizations,
business and entrepreneurship.

President’s African Young Leadership Initiative present were: J. Alben Greaves, Laura Golakeh, Matthew M.
Fred, Philip G. Innis, Sarah M. Johnson, Patrice D. Juah, Yassah N. Lavalah and
Abel W. Cheayou.
