T. NELSON WINS HUMANITARIAN AWARD
Another Prestigious Honor has been bestowed upon one of Liberia’s finest sons, T. Nelson Williams, II.
This time, Mr. Williams has been awarded the Humanitarian Award as Humanitarian of the year, 2013.
On Friday, December 20, 2013 in Monrovia, two renowned Civil Society groups in Liberia, Strategic Journalists Committee and Progressive Youth Alliance honored T. Nelson Williams, II as Humanitarian of the year, 2013, for his Humanitarian work in the country as he continues to touch the lives of people in various sectors of the country.
Rudolson Fayiah and K. Mamadee Keita, Presidents of the Strategic Journalists Committee and Progressive Youth Alliance respectively, noted that they have closely followed the activities of various stakeholders cum personalities in the country for the entire year and after a thorough assessment, they have intrepidly selected Mr. Williams who according to them “have done a great deal of work through various organizations like the Servants of All Prayer (SOAP), Young Men Christian Association (YMCA), Bethel Cathedral of Hope, Alpha Phi Alpha, etc. that have made a tremendous impact in the lives of people in the country and certainly deserved being honored as Humanitarian of the Year, 2013”.
It can be recalled that T. Nelson Williams, II who is also Managing Director of the Liberia Petroleum Refining Company (LPRC), was in November this year (2013) honored as Managing Director of the year by one of Liberia’s most respected Civil Society organizations, Free Conscious & Independent Thinkers.

SERVANTS OF ALL PRAYER ASSEMBLY (SOAP) - Founder & Executive Director
1. Participated in several Sexual and Gender-based Violence (SGBV) initiatives in various counties:
(a) Partnered with International Rescue Committee (IRC) on project, “Engaging Men as Partners in Preventing Violence Against Women and Girls”. This project was implemented in communities in Lofa and Nimba Counties. IRC funded the project at US$15,000.00.
(b) Partnered with U. N. Women on project, “Involving Men in the Implementation of SGBV and Peace Building at Community Level”. The project covered communities in Grand Bassa and Gbarpolu Counties. UN Women funded the project at US$29,942.00. The SOAP GBV Coordinator is Rev. Stephen Tour who is the Senior Pastor at World Harvest Church in Gardnersville.
(c) Partnered with UNMIL on country wide Anti-Rape campaigns
(d) Partnered with Ministry of Gender and Development on national Anti-Rape Campaign and 16 Days of Activism.
(e) Hospital visitation to C. H. Renner Hospital. Personal items and snacks were distributed to patients and staff of the hospital.
(f) Prison visitation to Central Prison. Personal items and snacks were distributed to inmates. A time of counseling and fellowship took place.

1. Scholarship at Grand Bassa Community College (GBCC)

4. Computer lab under construction for junior high, senior high & college students
5. Provided 5 computers, 2 printers and 1 copier for foundation computer lab
6. Contribution to First Baptist Church of Edina for church renovation project
7. Donated one YAMAHA Keyboard to the Bassa Children’s Choir
8. Established the Bassa Children’s Choir
9. Scholarship to medical student
10. Contributions made to two (2) Bassa radio stations
11. Hosted annual children’s Christmas party
12. The day-to-day running of the foundation is made possible by Ms. Rebecca Harris and Mr. Ben Cleon.

1. Constructed and donated water pump / borehole to Police Academy Community
2. Donated one set of soccer jersey to Police Academy Team
3. Gratted the Police Academy Road
4. Donated clothes and food stuffs to residence of Police Academy Rd.
5. Provided scholarships to students at L.U., Stella Maris and AMEU
6. Hosted Children Christmas Party in Police Academy Community
ALPHA PHI ALPHA FRATERNITY, INC. – President & Area Director, West Africa
SCHOLARSHIP
The Chapter raised over $20,500.00 in 2013 for education. Eta Epsilon Lambda partnered with Liberian Education Trust (LET) in providing scholarships to forty eight junior high and high school students.
CONTRIBUTIONS
Two laptop computers valued at $1,700.00 were donated to the Effort Baptist Church Computer Learning Center.
NATIONAL ANTI-RAPE CAMPAIGN
Alpha Phi Alpha proudly and resolutely joined the Ministry of Gender and Development, the Gender-Based Taskforce, and the leadership of the Republic of Liberia in the fight against sexual assault and rape perpetuated against women and children. Bro. Michael Wotorson, World Policy Council Chairman is leading this initiative. The Chapter also led the “No Mean No” march on Monday, December 2, 2013.
LEADERSHIP & SERVICE
The chapter established mentoring partnerships with the YMCA of Liberia through its Subject-to-Citizen (S2C) program and Ricks Institute through its Servant Leadership Program.
ALPHA MEDICAL MISSIONS TO LIBERIA
On February 15, 2013, Bro. Darryl Matthews, 32nd General President of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated and seven medical doctors, all members of Alpha Phi Alpha, arrived in Liberia from the United States with the sole purpose of serving humanity by providing free surgical care and other medical services to Liberians. Bro. Dr. Rahn Kennedy Bailey, President of the National Medical Association (NMA) led the delegation to Liberia. The distinguished Alpha Doctors provided free surgeries at J.F.K. Hospital, Redemption Hospital, Jackson F. Doe, Sr. Memorial Hospital, ELWA and other medical facilities.

• 2013 Alpha Spirit Award presented to the Liberian chapter by Bro. Mark Tillman, 34th General President of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity at the 107th general convention in Austin, Texas. (July, 2013).
• 2013 Golden Image Award was presented by Hon. Augustine Ngufuan, Foreign Minister of the Republic of Liberia for outstanding leadership and service to humanity. (June, 2013).
CHILDREN’S CHRISTMAS PARTY
On December 7, 2013, Eta Epsilon Lambda Chapter hosted a five hour Christmas party for the kids at the Brisbane Learning Center. The Alpha brothers served the children and provide educational and fun gifts throughout the day. Vice President Boakai was in attended and presented additional gifts to the kids.
4th ANNUAL SCHOLARSHIP BALL
The chapter is hosted its 4th Annual Scholarship Ball today at the Paynesville City Hall with the goal of raising funds for its educational programs in Liberia.
