OSA QUALIFIES FOR TUNISIA
The Oilers Sports Association (OSA) proved their strength is not just for the Liberia Basketball top flight but can also compete with the elites in the sub-region as they ended as runners-up in the recent Federation of International Basketball Association (FIBA) zone III club championship for Men and Women.
The competition held at the Samuel Kanyon Doe (SKD) Gymnasium in Paynesville, brought together seven teams from Liberia, Guinea, Sierra Leone, Ghana and Nigeria.
In a round robin event, the teams showed case in an attempt to outdo each other in booking a place in the Tunisia finals.
True to earlier predictions, the Oilers did not disappoint as they ended as runners-up to Nigeria’s behemoth side kano pillars in qualifying for the Federation of International Basketball Association (FIBA) club championship finals for Men in Tunisia. The tournament is slated for this November and is expected to last for ten days as per information available thus far.
In the oil boys first match in the competition, they defeated Nigerian outfit Union Bank 58-54 points and whalloped fellow compatriots NPA pythons 103-74 points.
They also pinned young sports club of Sierra Leone 89-66 points, but, they fell prey to Nigerian giants kano pillars 82-65 points and made amends by trouncing Guinean club Horoya 81-67 points.
