OSA, LISMACO Sign MOU
The Oilers Sport Association (OSA) and the Liberia Sports Management Company (LISMACO) have entered into an agreement that will bring to the fore a sponsorship package for the Oilers Basketball Squad in the pending Federation of International Basketball Association (FIBA) Africa Zone III tournament slated for Tunisia later this month (November).
During the signing ceremony which took place on November 5, in the Training hall of the LPRC, LISMACO boss Jake Kabakollie thanked the LPRC for entertaining the idea of wanting to work with his organization in making sure they can represent OSA in presenting a basketball team to represent Liberia in such a top rated competition.
The LPRC he noted is fully capable of sending out a team to compete, but believe since the tournament will involve LPRC raising Liberia`s flag, it is a Liberian initiative and have seen the need to be a part of such exercise.
“LISMACO wants to bring her expertise in connecting the country behind the Oilers basketball team so it can be a Liberian team instead of an LPRC team”, Mr. Kabakollie noted.
The LISMACO boss further noted “we are excited about the opportunity and we are looking forward toward a great working relationship”.
Speaking on behalf of OSA, President James Jappah intoned “we want to appreciate LISMACO for the brilliant idea as this is the first of its kind for a group of Liberians outside the LPRC to help OSA which will further motivate the players.
In a post MOU signing, Mr. Kabakollie said they thought to support OSA because they admired the team in the recent FIBA tournament where they played with their heart. He also said they are hoping to take fans to Tunisia as a means of cheering OSA to victory.
LISMACO is expected to raise funds close to US$100,000.00 for the trip which will include ticket expenses and others. The group is expected to rally everyone including business houses in supporting the Oilers as they raise the red, white and blue flag of Liberia.
It can be recalled that OSA ended as runners-up in a recent FIBA tournament held in Liberia. The tournament included teams from Nigeria, Ghana, Guinea, and Sierra Leone. Nigerian outfit Kano Pillars emerged as champions with the Oilers ending as runners-up. The FIBA Zone III tournament will involve 10 teams from the five zones in Africa, a tournament that will certainly raise the profile of the back to back to back champions of the Liberia Basketball Association (LBA) championship.
