The Liberia Petroleum Refining Company (LPRC) successfully wrapped up its Annual Board and Senior Management Retreat at K-Plaza in Buchanan City, Grand Bassa County The retreat, themed “Enhancing Regulation and Fuel Security in the Downstream Petroleum Sector,” focused on crucial policy discussions, strategic planning, and setting a clear direction for the company’s future.
Throughout the retreat, several key policies were discussed and reviewed, including the Human Resource Policy, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Policy, LPRC’s Tank First Policy, Compliance Policy, Procurement Policy, Management Information System (MIS) Policy, and Retirement Policy, among others.
These reviews are part of LPRC’s commitment to refining its operational and governance framework. Notably, many of the policies reviewed stemmed from recommendations made by the General Auditing Commission (GAC) in previous fiscal years. A proposed revised set of policies will be submitted to the Board of Directors for ratification.
Additionally, the retreat included discussions to ensure fuel security and the continuous availability and affordability of petroleum products on the Liberian market.
Site Visit to LPRC Property in Buchanan
As part of the retreat, the Board and Senior Management visited LPRC’s property near the Buchanan port facility to assess its potential for future developments.
The retreat concluded with a significant Corporate Social Responsibility initiative, as LPRC formally handed over a refurbished Outpatient Department (OPD) at the Liberian Government Hospital in Buchanan to the Grand Bassa County Health Authority. This initiative included the renovation of the Patients’ Waiting Ward, the provision of 84 stainless chairs for patient seating, and a set of DSTV with a six-month subscription.
During the handover ceremony, Managing Director Hon. Amos B. Tweh expressed the company’s commitment to community welfare:
“Our commitment to the well-being of Liberians extends beyond petroleum refining. By supporting healthcare infrastructure, we demonstrate our resolve to uplift the lives of people across the nation. This project reflects LPRC’s continued investment in Liberia’s development.”
Deputy Managing Director for Administration, Hon. Jacob Julius Smith echoed this sentiment, stating:
“At LPRC, we believe that giving back to the community is a crucial part of our mandate. This refurbished facility and the accompanying donations will help improve healthcare delivery for residents of Grand Bassa County and beyond.”
Receiving the facility and equipment on behalf of the Grand Bassa County Health Authority, George Whisseh, County Health Officer of Grand Bassa County, expressed gratitude:
“We are deeply appreciative of LPRC’s generosity and commitment to improving healthcare services. This refurbished OPD and the accompanying donations will greatly enhance our capacity to serve the public efficiently and effectively.”
The retreat was a resounding success, marked by productive discussions, strategic policy reviews, and impactful CSR initiatives, all designed to position LPRC as a leader in Liberia’s downstream petroleum sector.
